Description

HIDROTEK BW4040 REVERSE OSMOSIS MEMBRANE - 4"

This membrane is considered the heart of a reverse osmosis system. It is the most important part of the system, as it separates harmful substances from the water, removing them via a waste stream, from the good water, which is sent to the tap ready for use.

How do reverse osmosis membranes work?
ROS membranes work on the principle of separating the incoming water into the osmotic water (permeate) and the rejected water (waste). Their operation is influenced by many factors, primarily temperature and pressure.

- When is it necessary to replace a reverse osmosis membrane?
The membrane in osmosis systems must be replaced based on the volume of water treated and the quality of the incoming water. Two signs indicate the need to replace osmosis membranes: a reduction in permeate, i.e., the quantity of water produced, and the quality of the permeate (i.e., the osmosed water). The first parameter is easily visible, while the second requires measuring instruments such as litmus paper or a conductivity meter (see related products).

- How to replace a reverse osmosis membrane
1. Turn off the water supply to the osmosis system (using the bypass valve mounted near the wall water inlet) and disconnect the power.
2. Close the storage tank ball valve, if present.
3. Open the purified water supply tap to remove any water from the pipes and relieve pressure from the system.
4. Identify the vessel(s) containing the reverse osmosis membrane and unscrew the cap.
5. Using parrot-nose pliers, remove the old membrane by gripping its plastic shank.
6. Remove the new membrane from its packaging, being careful to only touch the plastic part to avoid bacterial contamination.
7. Grease the black gasket that acts as a collar and the O-rings at the end with Vaseline or food-grade silicone grease.
8. Insert the new membrane into the vessel and screw the cap back on.
9. Re-open the water inlet valve to the system and reconnect the power supply (leave the storage tank valve closed, if present).
10. Rinse the membrane by leaving the supply tap open for at least 20-30 minutes.
11. Re-open the valve on the storage tank and... you can use the system normally!
